Cheryl Phillips APRN has been practicing nursing since 1993 after completing an LPN training program through the United States Army where she served in the reserves for 10 years. She has since completed her BSN in 1999 and a dual Master’s program obtaining an MSN as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and MPH with a focus in Occupational Medicine in 2010 from the University of South Florida. Cheryl most recently completed her DNP as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2020, also at the University of South Florida.
The majority of her career has been in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care. She has also worked in Perioperative Medicine and Occupational Medicine. She is excited to be working at MHO to focus on a more proactive approach to disease prevention. Cheryl truly enjoys a patient centered approach to her care, and is looking forward to caring for the employees of the BOCC. She is blessed with 3 young sons that happily occupy the majority of her free time.

If you are scheduled with one of our Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, who is licensed to practice autonomously, please know that the board of nursing has the authority to grant APRNs to practice autonomously under Section 464.0123 if the applicant demonstrates that they:

Hold a Clear, Active, Florida APRN License

Must not have been subject to disciplinary action as specified in s. 456.072, F.S. or s. 464.018, F.S., or any similar disciplinary action in any state or jurisdiction within the past five years.

Have completed at least 3000 clinical hours under the supervision of an allopathic or osteopathic physician within the past 5 years. These hours may include clinical instructional hours. See 464.123(1)(c), F.S. for complete requirements.

Submit proof of three graduate-level semester hours (or the equivalent) in differential diagnosis, and three graduate-level semester hours (or the equivalent) in pharmacology completed within the last five years.

When engaging in autonomous practice, an APRN must provide information in writing to a new patient about their qualifications and the nature of autonomous practice before or during the initial patient encounter.
